Ontario’s Summer 2023 Landscaping Projection

Armour Stone Landscaping

The summer of 2022 sparked the resurgence of the backyard barbeque. Family-style potlucks surrounded by friends, family, and campfires were happening far more than we’ve seen in years past.

On top of that, having a backyard barbeque is a great way to get together with everyone in a budget-friendly way. Eliminating the need to worry about finding a restaurant that meets everyone’s needs, and creating a memorable evening with a bag of chips and a package of hot dogs.

Due to this growth of at-home gatherings, landscaping projects are at an all-time high. Canada’s landscaping industry grew by over two billion dollars between 2020 and 2022, the same amount of growth in the prior six-year period. Homeowners have found themselves spending more time at home, and investing in their homes to create the most enjoyable living experience possible. Due to this increased demand, many of our local landscapers are already booking well into July 2023.

If you were hoping to hire a landscaper next spring, you may already have missed that chance, but here’s where we come in.

We love helping DIYers get their project started. If you’re considering a DIY landscape renovation this fall or next spring, we’ve got all of the materials and knowledge you need to make your project a success.

Non-Woven Geotextile:

Non-woven geotextile is a needle-punched landscape fabric most frequently used for subsurface drainage, soil separation, filtration, and erosion & sediment control. Geotextiles restrict soil particles while allowing liquids and gases to easily pass through. It’s the starting layer of every successful landscaping project. Here’s how to use it.

  1. Prepare the surface by removing grass and other obstructions to create level and compacted soil.
  2. Unroll the geotextile fabric and pin it in place, always overlap your fabric seems.
  3. Apply your aggregate. For patios or walkways, we recommend 3/8” chip stone underneath your pavers.

Some core reasons to use geotextiles under your next stone project include:

  • Reducing the amount of screening required for your project.
  • Creating a barrier to prevent your aggregate from migrating into the soil over time.
  • Resisting and suppressing weeds.
  • Acting as a drainage filter under your gravel.

In addition to geotextiles, we also offer a range of soils, mulches, and stones available for delivery. Beyond the basics such as screening and crushed stone, some growing landscaping trends include the use of Armour Stone or Gabion Baskets as decorative walls. They also make an attractive barrier or separation between different spaces in your yard.
