Subdrain installation and manufacturing requirements are changing, and we’re excited to be a part of it. At the Land Improvement Contractors of Ontario (LICO) meeting last month, the organization voted in favour of the drainage industry adopting third party certified pipe by the end of 2024.
LICO is an association of professional contractors, suppliers of drainage pipe and equipment, engineers and municipal drainage superintendents principally concerned with agriculture and the land drainage industry of Ontario, Canada. LICO Contractors are government licensed and principally design and lay tile drains on farms and construct the necessary municipal outlet drains.
More information about LICO can be found on their website here.
What is BNQ Certification?
The Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) as a certification organization. This accreditation ensures a conformity assessment issued by an impartial third party in compliance with international requirements applicable to certification bodies. The BNQ is proud to offer certification programs that have earned it tremendous credibility internationally. As an independent third party, the BNQ insists on exemplary professional ethics that every employee and contractor must follow.
Why Does BNQ Certification Matter?
Certification is a measure of quality, ingenuity, and progress. BNQ certified products must develop and improve in accordance with industry requirements and modernization.
This certification exists to provide customers with certainty that the manufacturer is following the industry proven testing protocols. Confirming that they supply quality products using a consistent manufacturing process.
Both Bluewater Pipes and Fittings have been certified since September 2023. Only nine manufacturers Canada-wide are currently accredited, and only two in Ontario. We’re the official distributor of Bluewater Pipe for the Niagara region.
The certification requirements for drainage products can be found here.
Who Does This Decision Impact?
With LICO endorsing BNQ certification it improves the industry standard to ensure that farmers are purchasing high quality products, bringing increased integrity to the drainage market.
With the expansion of manufacturing capacity of corrugated drainage pipes in Ontario by new businesses, the adoption of a third party certification program ensures all manufacturers, new and old, will be supplying products compliant with proven performance standards. When investing in your farm it’s important to get the best product for long-term reliability and value. BNQ certification polices the quality to ensure your investment is a good one.
We’re proud to be the only official distributor of Bluewater Pipe for the Niagara region. Your BNQ certified subdrain option.
